You could call it a six-pack of Bobcats or a family-size river jump. Texas State University graduate Allison Jones (M.A. '22) was joined by five of her family members and fellow alumni as she jumped into the San Marcos River following the spring commencement ceremony at the University Events Center. The Jones family has been represented at Texas State for the last 12 years.

The heart of our Bobcat Family breaks for the community of Uvalde, a place that is home for many Texas State University students and alumni. We know that our students and their families have been impacted and may be in need of our support. Many in our community have asked how they can help fellow Bobcats and Uvalde families during this time and beyond. The university has set up the Uvalde Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide financial support to current and future Texas State students affected by the shooting at Robb Elementary School.

Audrey Mills
Audrey Mills is a senior studying criminal justice who will graduate in December 2022. Texas State was an easy choice for Mills, as she sat in her first crime theory class as a young child when her mom was a student at Texas State. Mills decided to follow in her father’s footsteps, wanting to become a probation officer. Mills said, “the criminal justice system is not where it needs to be, and the only way to change it is from the inside.” When asked what receiving this scholarship means to her, Mills said, “It was an honor to receive this scholarship. I work two jobs while studying as a full-time student, and this scholarship was rewarded at a time when I needed it most, to finish my degree.”

For the past ten years, Dr. Barbara Breier has served as Vice President for University Advancement and Executive Director of the Texas State University Development Foundation. Under her leadership, Texas State completed the Pride in Action capital campaign in 2014, raising more than 151 million dollars. She has put us well on the way to fulfilling the 250-million-dollar goal of our current NEXT IS NOW capital campaign, raising more than 195 million so far. We are grateful for her service at Texas State and wish her a happy retirement!

IN MEMORIAM
Barbara Tidwell ('62)
|
The beloved Strutters’ founder and first director, Barbara Guinn Tidwell, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2022 at the age of 86. After creating the legendary dance team in 1960, Mrs. Tidwell served as the team’s director for 37 years until her retirement in 1997. She came up with the name “Strutters” saying famously, “I wanted something that didn’t end in ‘ettes.’” Barbara received the Alumni Star Award in 1993, and established the Barbara Tidwell Scholarship Endowment benefitting members of the Strutters organization. Barbara has been and will continue to be an inspiration to past, present, and future Strutters.
