Board of Directors

Why I Give Back Board of Directors Video Thumbnail

As we continue to elevate the support and services we offer our Texas State family, we are looking to add members to the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Our board members are inspired to give back to Texas State because of the impact their time as students had on their lives. Their diverse voices play a vital role in shaping the alumni experience. You can apply for the Alumni Association Board of Directors through July 16.

Major Kiersten Thompson

Maj. Kiersten Thompson
(B.E.S.S. '10)

Maj. Kiersten Thompson was a cadet in Texas State's Air Force ROTC Detachment 840 under "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," which prevented service members from being openly queer without the threat of being discharged. As a lesbian, she struggled with having to keep part of her identify a secret, but she found supportive friends at Texas State whom she was able to be open with. She graduated on Dec. 18, 2010, the same day the Senate passed the Don't Ask Don't Tell Repeal Act of 2010. She remembers the relief she felt as she realized she would finally be able to share her full self with the people she served alongside. Her full story is featured in the Texas State Digital Newsroom.
