This day of service honors the tradition thousands of Bobcats have participated in for years by inviting our more than 209,000 alumni around the world to join us and the Texas State student body in giving back to our communities on Saturday, May 1.

Judge Rose Vela

Judge Rose Vela (B.A. ‘85) has been appointed Director of the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, U.S. Office of Personal Management. The commission, which provides emerging leaders with first-hand experience in the process of governing the nation, was established by fellow Texas State alumnus President Lyndon B. Johnson in a 1964 executive order.

Texas State has been awarded a $1.5 million reskilling grant to help up to 1,000 former students with some college credit return to school and complete their degrees. The grant is part of the Texas Reskilling Support Fund Grant Program and will directly support Bring Bobcats Back, a program created in 2018 to encourage students to return to Texas State and finish their degrees.

Dr. Emily K. Brunson, associate professor in the Department of Anthropology, joined the Big Ideas TXST podcast to discuss how vaccination hesitancy is complicating the effort to immunize the U.S. population against the COVID-19 pandemic.

Bobcats in the Wild

Jessica T Brown

Jessica T. Brown (B.S. '18)

Jessica joined Texas State University as a nontraditional, first-generation student in 2016. "As a Guyanese American, being the first in my immediate family to graduate college was everything for me," she says. While at Texas State, she worked as the first full-time marketing and communications coordinator for the environmental nonprofit TreeFolks. In 2020, she was accepted into the University of Oregon's environmental studies master's program and is studying storytelling's ability to help heal landscapes and communities. This summer, she will launch a nonprofit organization, Fernland, focused on transforming environmentalism through art and education.

We have been thrilled to see the popularity of our Alumni Network Program continually rise since we introduced it last year. As we begin to create more networks based on the needs and interests of our alumni, we encourage you to let us know what networks you are interested in joining. During the month of April, the first 200 alumni who complete an Alumni Network Interest Form will receive a free TXST Alumni t-shirt. So, take a couple minutes to explore the networks and find one that's right for you!

Winners will receive up to $20,000 in non-dilutive startup funding, space at STAR One, Texas State's technology incubator, and mentorship from our entrepreneurs-in-residence.

March Madness Comes to TXST

NCAA at TXST

San Marcos welcomed sports fans in March as Texas State hosted 12 teams in the first round of the 2021 NCAA Women's Basketball tournament. "Having the ability to showcase our facilities, our staff and all the wonderful things that this university has to offer is so amazing," said Bobcat women's basketballl coach Zenarae Antoine.
