Video: The Life of a Bobcat Student-Athlete
From early morning practices to late night study sessions, and the rigorous training and competitions in between, our student-athletes balance their responsibilities with impressive stamina. They inspire tremendous school spirit in Bobcat Nation. For this month’s episode of The Current, I spoke with two of our exceptional student-athletes to hear about their experiences and to celebrate some big wins in Athletics this Spring. |

My Top Ten Moments
“I wasn’t born in Texas, but I got here as fast as I could.” That expression came to mind when I had the privilege of speaking at the naturalization ceremony for new U.S. citizens (a milestone I celebrated 21 years ago), and when I joined the grand procession at the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo (which generously supports our student scholarships). Discussing TXST water conservation research aboard a glass-bottom boat was another highlight this month. Check out my latest Top Ten Moments.

NEXT Up: Lauren Utley
Lauren Utley is NEXT Up. She’s sharing what inspires her to serve as co-director of Bobcat Build, the university’s largest service project. On April 1, over 3,000 student volunteers will descend on work sites across the San Marcos area to serve local families and organizations.

Mission Moment: Celebrating Successes
We launched the Hopes & Aspirations High vision, set the transformation of our Round Rock Campus in motion, and introduced more than $50 million in investments to move TXST forward. In my latest update to the university community, I shared that we have much to celebrate:
- New student applications for this Fall are on record pace, up 23% from last year’s record class.
- For the first time in history, TXST is second, only to Texas A&M University, in applications submitted through Apply Texas for Fall 2023.
- We’ve generated a lot of buzz overseas and are set to welcome more international students than ever before. Applications from abroad are up 377%.
- Our targeted investments in the Run to R1 have already moved the needle. Nearly 50 new Ph.D. students will join us this summer.
- Research expenditures so far this fiscal year are up 21% with several prestigious research awards and federal grants announced this Spring.
Thank you for being part of such an exciting time for TXST! |
Sincerely,
Kelly Damphousse President
