National Spotlight on Texas State for Seal of Excelencia Honor
Excelencia in Education, the nation’s premier authority on efforts accelerating Latino student success in higher education, announced that Texas State University has been certified with the prestigious Seal of Excelencia for demonstrating through data, evidence-based practices and leadership, how it is intentionally serving Latino students.
The TRIO Programs at Texas State have received a $1.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to establish Veterans Upward Bound, a program that will help 125 military veteran students in their degree completion. Veterans Upward Bound

Remembering Elena Zamora O’Shea
The first Hispanic woman to attend Texas State University was Elena Zamora O’Shea, a pioneering novelist and educator. Zamora attended TXST in 1906 following years of school teaching in Texas. A residence hall on the San Marcos Campus was renamed in her honor. First Latina student
Alkek Foundation gives $1 million gift
The Albert and Margaret Alkek Foundation has donated $1 million to Texas State for the creation of the Alkek Laboratory for Immersive Arts & Sciences. The gift will fund student programming in the Alkek Library through the Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. Immersive Arts & Sciences
